Background

I’m a PhD student at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, working within the Cancer Neural-Immunology Lab. My project investigates the effect of radiotherapy on nerves in breast cancer. As nerves turn off the anti-cancer immune response, I hope to be able to enhance the effect of radiotherapy by silencing nerves in the tumour.

Previously, I completed my Bachelor of Science at the Clayton campus of Monash in 2017, majoring in physiology and pharmacology. I undertook my Honours in 2018 at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute where I remained for another year as a research assistant looking at the cardiovascular complications of diabetes. It was during this time that a passion for research was ingrained in me, eventually transferring to cancer research.

This is my first year with the MGA, which I was drawn towards after commencing my studies during lockdown. As Parkville is rather separate from the other campuses, I hope to be involved with increasing awareness of the services and facilities on offer at Parkville.

Beyond my PhD, I am the Chair of the ASCEPT Student Committee. I am a teaching associate for first year units with the Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science courses and I work as a scientist mentor for the Gene Technology Access Centre, mentoring high school students in life sciences.

Personal Interests

I play footy on my weekends and run when I can. I live in regional Victoria so appreciate anything involving the outdoors, from gardening to skiing!
