Share your valuable experience with a new Monash HDR student.
We are on the lookout for HDR (PhD & Masters by Research) mentors for our peer-to-peer HDR Mentor Program. This is a wonderful opportunity for experienced HDR students to share their experience with their peers about HDR-related issues and offer useful tips for surviving the research journey. It’s a great way to network too!
What is unique about the program?
Flexible: The program will be run online over 12 weeks starting Monday, 23 August 2021.
Targeted: The program is designed to provide new Monash PhD/Masters by Research students with mentors (experienced HDR students) who will guide them to not only survive but thrive through the early stages of their research journey.
Personalised: Where possible, mentors and mentees will be paired by the MGA’s Mentor Coordinator based on school/ department/ faculty. If this requirement cannot be met, the MGA Mentor Coordinator will reach out to the participant and potential mentor to assess suitability.
Structured: The program has been designed to include six regular sessions over 12 weeks. Mentors and mentees will be expected to meet online for about 45 minutes every 2 weeks. Session guides with topics and questions will be provided.
Guided: Mentors will be guided and nurtured by the MGA’s Mentor Coordinator throughout the program.
We’re looking for students who:
(1) are currently enrolled in a PhD at Monash.
(2) are at least past their first milestone (post-confirmation).
(3) are willing to share their expertise and know-how (especially with regards to effectively navigating the first month of the research journey) and have an understanding of the overall PhD experience.
(4) are able to commit to regular online meetings and make the time to invest in the mentor and mentee relationship.
If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, sign up to be a coursework mentor by Friday, 6 August 2021.
