Call for nominations: Monash Graduate Association Executive Committee Election 2025/2026

Are you a passionate, driven graduate student at Monash looking to make a difference to your community? Here is your chance!

Nominations are now open for the Monash Graduate Association Executive Committee (MGAEC) election!

The MGAEC governs the MGA by making policy decisions and driving the broader strategy of the organisation as a whole. Serving on the committee provides a real opportunity for students to have a meaningful impact on decisions affecting the wider graduate student population at Monash.

If joining the MGAEC sounds like something you’d be interested in, read on to learn more about the committee and the process for nominations.

Why have an election?

Student governance is the bedrock of the MGA. We hold elections each year so that graduate students have a say in who is advocating for their needs and driving policy for the community as a whole.

Why nominate?

Being a part of the MGAEC offers students the opportunity to collaborate with other motivated students, develop leadership skills, and gain valuable experience in problem-solving and decision-making.

And let’s not forget the opportunity to give back to the student community! Our MGAEC members have been involved in tremendous lobbying efforts on behalf of all graduate students. Currently, our reps are actively pushing for another increase in the HDR stipend. In recent years, they have achieved a number of wins - big and small - for grads at Monash, such as advocating for international students, securing better parking options for students on campus, introducing a welfare scheme for graduate students in financial distress, and so much more. You can read more about past triumphs and the current issues that our MGAEC members are working to address here

How many roles are there on the MGAEC and are they all the same?

There are 11 general representative positions and 4 campus-tagged positions that make up  the MGAEC. Some members are general representatives, while others are campus-tagged (e.g. Clayton Representative, Peninsula Representative). Those who are general reps have the opportunity to take on an office bearer position such as. Queer Officer or Research Education Officer. Campus-tagged reps can also apply for any office-bearer position except that of President.

How do nominations work?

Work for the MGA

The MGA employs Monash graduate students to fill the receptionist roles at the Clayton and Caulfield offices. When a vacancy arises we advertise the position through our email newsletter and on our website.

The Monash Graduate Association (MGA) is the representative body for all graduate research and coursework students enrolled at Monash University. So, what sets us apart from the University services? The MGA is an independent, not-for-profit association governed by graduate students, for graduate students. Our primary aim is to be there for you! If you can’t find what you are looking for, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
