Highlights from 2025 Battle of the Brains | Winners of the annual HDR Trivia Night!

Find out more about who claimed the top prizes at our infamous evening of fun and quizzing for HDR students.

For the last three years in a row, the Faculty of Science's The Animorphs & The Sexaquarks (formerly known as Mighty Morphin' Power Cascade Arrangers in 2023 and, before that, It's Morpho Time in 2022) have held the championship title at the MGA's Battle of the Brains. Last year they reclaimed the title by a nose in a tie-break to end all tie-breakers, or so we thought...

This year, the MGA's annual HDR Trivia Night included another tie-breaker between two brand new teams, which was nail biting for totally different reasons.

As two formidable teams emerged from the standard rounds of trivia with the same score ranking them at second place, we once again saw a battle ensue for glory.

However, the team who was tied with Reviewer 3, in a generous show of integrity, asked the judges to double-check the scores - convinced they had placed lower than announced. After a recount, it was confirmed that Reviewer 3 had indeed secured second place.

Huge respect to the other team for speaking up - we wouldn't have known otherwise, and their honesty didn't go unnoticed.

With all that drama, we almost forgot to mention who came in first!

And the winner was...

The Faculty of Science's Goose Charlie Scrap & Mochi! This brand new team came in to steal the show and usher in a new era for the Battle of the Brains.

But here at the MGA, we maintain that you're all winners, which is why we gave out extra prizes for other contenders. Special mention goes to:

  • Best team name: Quantitative in the streets/Qualitative in the sheets
  • Wooden spoon winner: Siri
  • Third place (TIED between 4 teams): Mind Game Aficionados, See Reverse Side for Team Name, She Dr On My Philosophy Till I Cry Victorious Secret

We'd like to thank our Quiz Meister Nikita for leading the charge and creating an atmosphere that all 28 teams who competed enjoyed tremendously. Drinks were pouring, pizza was eaten and many laughs were shared.

Work for the MGA

The MGA employs Monash graduate students to fill the receptionist roles at the Clayton and Caulfield offices. When a vacancy arises we advertise the position through our email newsletter and on our website.

The Monash Graduate Association (MGA) is the representative body for all graduate research and coursework students enrolled at Monash University. So, what sets us apart from the University services? The MGA is an independent, not-for-profit association governed by graduate students, for graduate students. Our primary aim is to be there for you!
