Census Date | 31 August 2023

The Census Date for Semester 2, 2023 is on Thursday, 31 August. What does that mean?
The Semester 2 census date is currently set for Thursday, 31 August 2023, more details here.
What is a census date?
It’s when you become liable for fees for the units you’re enrolled in.
It is the last day you can make changes to your units without financial or academic penalties (there are some exceptions). So if there’s a unit you’re not really sure about, or if your study load is too heavy and you might want to go part-time, now is the time to act!
If you withdraw from a unit by 11:59 pm (Melbourne time) on Thursday, 31 August:
- You will not be liable to pay fees for the course
- You will avoid having ‘Withdrawn’ or ‘Withdrawn Fail’ against a unit on your academic record
Keep in mind that there are other factors you should consider while making changes to your enrolment.
For example: If you’re an international student, your student visa may have a requirement for a certain number of units. Undercutting the minimum requirement would involve a change of CoE and some paperwork, and could also require you to attend an additional semester to complete your credit requirements for course completion.
