Set yourself up for success this semester by brushing up on the basics.

Academic pressures can be overwhelming at times and it can be tempting to seek shortcuts or quick fixes when faced with demanding assignments and exams. We’ve all been there.
But whatever you do, don’t take shortcuts that undermine your academic success. There will be consequences if you make poor decisions.
Below are the ABCs (and Ds and Es and Fs…) of academic success. These tips will lead you on the right path!
a) Learn about academic integrity on the Monash website.
The University is very strict when it comes to these rules and it isn’t enough to just pass the mandatory module. Explore this page to learn about proper paraphrasing and referencing, if/how you are allowed to use AI in your course and more. This knowledge truly makes all the difference.
b) Wanting to change academic units? Make sure you do so before Friday, 8 August 2025.
Not enjoying a particular unit you’re taking? It’s not too late to change! But you must enrol before 8 August. It’s important to check whether your unit is an elective or a core subject, as we would advise you only change electives so that you can continue progressing in your degree as planned, especially if future units you are required to take have prerequisites.
c) Excel in your degree by speaking to an SAS advisor.
Get expert tips for free from the Student Academic Success team! From academic writing, to referencing and time management, SAS can help you with anything. Browse their resources online, attend a workshop or book in a 1:1 consultation with an advisor for free. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
d) Use the Monash library services.
Much like SAS, Monash library services are a well of knowledge just waiting to be explored. They have great tips for referencing, citations and general studying as well as an expert team who you can meet with for advice. Book a 1:1 consultation or attend a workshop to start your studies on the right track.
Worried about a core programming unit? Feeling a little lost? PASS is a great way to tackle first year subjects that you may understandably need some help with. It’s a great way to meet and learn from people in your discipline.
