At Monash University, graduate student representatives are valuable members on University committees. Active membership on University committees provides an excellent opportunity for graduate involvement in important decision making.
Graduates are a major stakeholder group of Monash University.
An elected graduate representative offers the committee unique perspectives and views on various issues and aspects of University life. Committees exist at all levels of Monash University. For example, some committees are University-wide, such as Council and Academic Board, while others can be campus, faculty or school-specific.
Our graduate reps sit on a range of committees, including (but not limited to) the following:
- Academic Boards
- University Council
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
- Monash Sexual Health Network
- Student Experience Committee
- Graduate Research Committee
The MGA ensures graduate student representation on all relevant University boards and committees.

Interested in being a graduate rep?
Are you someone with good ideas, looking to make a difference to your graduate student community?
Representing your student group on a Monash central committee is a great way to shape the University experience for all students.
As an elected graduate student representative, you have the opportunity to offer the committee your unique perspective and views on various issues and aspects of university life, contribute to the decision-making process and actively participate in the initiatives that impact campus life. These roles come with real responsibility – your input can help ensure that the university’s policies, programs and services align with the diverse needs for the graduate student body.
Here's a few things you should know:
- These roles are only open to graduate students (PhD, Masters, Grad. Dip or Grad. Cert).
- All students must be enrolled in a recognised graduate program on a Victorian campus of Monash University.
- Graduate students can apply for multiple roles.
- The terms for each role will span from 1 January – 31 December of the year.
The appointment process for University committees is conducted by the MGA, an independent external organisation.
No prior experience in committee work is required. All we ask is that you come with a professional and respectful attitude, a genuine interest in improving the student experience and a commitment to attend all of the listed meetings for the respective committees.
If this sounds like you, or if you'd like more information, please contact mga-reps@monash.edu. Opportunities are also promoted on this webpage and in our fortnightly newsletter.

The Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture is calling for expressions of interest to sit on their OH&S Committee for 2026.
The committee provides a forum to meet regularly with staff from across the organisation to share knowledge and experience, exchange ideas about health and safety risks, and discuss practical measures to eliminate or reduce those risks.
It also addresses broader organisational safety matters in accordance with the committee’s Terms of Reference (ToR) and supports a consistent approach to implementing and continually improving the OHS Management System (OHSMS).
