Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your background and your area of study?

Hello, my name is Ummatul Siddique (Umma), and I am currently in the third year of my PhD in the Department of Physiotherapy. My research focuses on neuromuscular changes due to ageing, aiming to uncover the underlying mechanisms through which exercise influences brain and muscle function, utilising non-invasive brain stimulation techniques to improve overall quality of life.

I completed my Bachelor's degree in Human Physiology, followed by a Master's degree in Medical Physiology. Afterward, I worked as a Research Associate in the field of movement disorders, gaining valuable insights into the complexities of motor control in disorders such as Parkinson's Disease. During this time, I worked closely in a clinical environment and collaborated with clinicians and researchers. This experience strengthened my research skills and nurtured my passion for making a meaningful difference in the field of research.

What is your role within the MGAEC, and what are you hoping to achieve over your term in office?

I am excited to step into my new role as part of the MGA, as it provides an invaluable platform for students. As a committee member, I aim to work collaboratively with the MGAEC to address every minor and major issue faced by graduate students. With my experience, I am committed to continuing to work for the betterment of our graduate student community.

What are your personal interests? What do you do for fun?

Apart from my academic pursuits, I find solace and inspiration in the simple act of watching sunsets, which reminds me to embrace nature's wonders and find balance in life. I also love watching movies and web series and have a deep-rooted passion for conducting research.
