Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your background and your area of study?
I am Jason Yeung, a first-year PhD student in the Department of Occupational Therapy, where I also work as a lecturer. My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) at Monash University, followed by a Master of Biomedical Science at the University of Melbourne.
Since completing my undergraduate degree, I have worked across various roles, including teaching associate, research assistant, and occupational therapist, with a clinical focus on aged care in both residential and community settings. My research interests lie in enhancing the well-being and quality of life of older people, and my PhD focuses on engagement in meaningful activity in residential aged care settings.
What is your role within the MGAEC, and what are you hoping to achieve over your term in office?
As the Peninsula Campus Representative, my goal is to strengthen connections among graduate students and enhance their experience, whether they are enrolled in coursework or research degrees. I am committed to enriching student life and fostering a supportive, inclusive community where everyone feels connected and valued.
What motivated you to join the executive committee? What drives you to make a difference in your graduate student community?
Having once been an international student myself, I understand the challenges of studying away from home, whether you are from overseas or interstate. Through my own journey across postgraduate study and academic work, I have come to appreciate the importance of having a strong support network.
I want to help ensure graduate students' voices are heard and advocate for them in ways that enrich their academic and social lives.
