Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your background and your area of study?

I am currently a third-year PhD student in the Robotics and Mechatronics Research Laboratory, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Monash University. My research focuses on developing methodologies for robotic surgery training using techniques based on haptics and force feedback. This initiative aims to address gaps in current robotic surgery training programs, with the goal of enhancing both patient safety and surgical accuracy.

What is your role within the MGAEC, and what are you hoping to achieve over your term in office?

In my new role as General Representative, I'm excited to have the opportunity to represent the graduate student community at Monash. My major goals for this term are to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all graduate students, address the unique challenges faced by our cohort, and be a strong voice for their needs and wellbeing. The community has continually faced challenges such as financial instability, balancing work-life demands, navigating career uncertainties, managing visa and immigration regulations, experiencing social isolation, and related issues. Working closely with the new MGAEC members, I aim to gain a deep understanding of these challenges and plan effective solutions.

What motivated you to join the executive committee? What drives you to make a difference in your graduate community?

As a graduate student, I have witnessed and experienced numerous issues that impact our community. I deeply understand the need for a strong representation to ensure that our concerns are heard and addressed effectively. This understanding has motivated me to join the MGAEC, with the goal of benefiting all students at Monash University.
