Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your background and your area of study?

My name is Beauty Nalwendo. I'm an international student from Zambia currently embarking on my second semester of my first year, pursuing a Master of Public Policy. As a social worker and researcher by profession, I have always been deeply committed to making a positive impact in communities. I am passionate about traveling and exploring different cuisines, always eager to experience new cultures and flavours.

What is your role within the MGAEC, and what are you hoping to achieve over your term in office?

As the General Representative within the MGAEC, I am committed to advocating for the needs and wellbeing of all students. During my term, I will collaborate closely with all officer bearers to ensure that student matters and welfare remain at the forefront of our decision-making processes. I am passionate about serving and my goal is to work in harmony with all campuses to support and enhance the MGAEC's agenda, striving to create an environment that upholds equality and provides safe spaces for all students.

Being part of the MGAEC allows me to channel my leadership skills towards meaningful advocacy. I am committed to ensuring that the committee's agenda reflects the diverse needs of our student body, promoting equality and inclusivity. My role is not just about representing students but actively working with them to co-create solutions that address their needs and aspirations. I am driven by the belief that through collective effort and dedicated advocacy, we can achieve significant improvements in student welfare and create a more solid and supportive community.

What motivated you to join the executive committee? What drives you to make a difference in your graduate community?

Joining the MGAEC as the General Representative has been a deeply motivating and fulfilling journey for me. My motivation comes from a mix of personal experiences, professional background, and a keen desire to contribute positively to the student community. As an international student, I have encountered various challenges and opportunities that come with studying abroad. These experiences have provided me with a unique perspective on the needs and concerns of fellow students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds.

I understand the importance of having a support system and an advocate who truly represents the students' voices and interests. Through my career as a social worker and researcher, my work has always been centred around community service and advocacy. This professional foundation has instilled in me the values of empathy, active listening, and proactive problem solving. These skills are directly transferable to my role within the MGAEC, where my primary goal is to ensure that student welfare and issues are prioritised in every decision we make.
