Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your background and your area of study?

I am an international student from Malaysia with a background in Mechanical Engineering. Before starting my PhD studies, I have spent nearly two years working in a wide range of industries ranging from engineering research and development to business consultancy. My growing interests in renewable energy led to the opportunity to undertake research in electrocatalyst design and CAD simulation at Monash.

Studying here at Monash enabled me to tap into the multidisciplinary environment where the intersection of prototyping, chemical processes and catalysts modelling, enabling better development of sustainable green engineering while working with experts from various fields.

What motivated you to join the executive committee? What drives you to make a difference in your graduate community?

As an elected member of the MGAEC (for another year!), I am humbled and eager to serve in providing assistance and also the platform for students to voice their opinions/suggestions in improving the quality of both learning and research experience in Monash University. Growing up in a multicultural society like Malaysia, I hope to share and celebrate cultural diversity with members and staff in improving our hospitality, services and events for graduate students.

As a student myself, I understand the solitary environment that HDR students are subjected to and the stress of meeting submission deadlines for coursework students. As the Vice President and Clayton Campus Representative, I am keen to break down communication barriers, improve general understanding of the the research environment in our faculties and campuses. Furthermore, I am a strong supporter of improving the mental wellbeing of our constituents.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any queries or if you need a buddy to chat with. It is an exciting opportunity to learn as well as exploring different disciplinary backgrounds together as part of continuous improvement and forming safe spaces for discussion. I look forward to meeting you through our events and volunteering activities.

What are your personal interests? What do you do for fun?

Research, swimming, grocery shopping, watching movies, being YOLO, learning new languages, exploring cultures and practicing theatre training with Monash University Student Theatre (MUST).
