Message from the Monash Graduate Association (MGA) President

Yiwen Yuan welcomes you to Semester 1, 2025

Published Date 05/03/2025

Dear graduate community,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Monash University as you embark on your journey of growth and achievement. As the President of the Monash Graduate Association (MGA) Executive Committee for 2025, I am dedicated to ensuring that your voice is heard and your needs are met within our diverse graduate community.

In the previous year, I had the privilege of serving as the Women's Officer at the MGA, gaining valuable insights into the needs and aspirations of our graduate community. Building upon past successes, such as lobbying for increased stipends for Ph.D. students and organising social programs to foster connections, I am committed to enhancing your overall experience at Monash.

To better serve your interests, we are excited to announce the establishment of our new Migration Support Hub. Recognising the importance of migration issues among graduate students, this hub will provide one-off consultancy services to empower you with the knowledge and resources necessary to navigate your rights to work and study in Australia.

As a Ph.D. student from the Faculty of Education, I am aware of the challenges faced by our community, particularly regarding the lack of concession public transportation for graduate students. I assure you that we will tirelessly advocate for your rights and strive to create a supportive environment that enables you to thrive academically and personally. We will also create spaces where your ideas can flourish and your concerns can be addressed.

True change comes from the collective power of our community. Your voices, experiences, and aspirations will shape the future of graduate education at Monash. As the recognised representative body for graduate students, the MGA is here to support, guide, and advocate for you throughout this journey. I encourage you to speak up, share your thoughts, and be an active part of this change.

Together, we will ensure your voices are heard. I look forward to working alongside you to create a meaningful graduate experience at Monash.

Welcome to Monash, welcome to the MGA, and welcome to a future of possibilities.

Yiwen Yuan

President, MGA 2025
