Introducing MSO food relief program

The MGA has partnered up with MSA and MONSU Caulfield to deliver free food markets for students. Read about our first two markets + more welfare initiatives to come!

With the help of the Victorian Government's Community Food Relief Program, student organisations at Monash were able to secure $55,000 in funding for food and other essentials for university students amidst a cost of living crisis. We are extremely proud of this achievement and excited to deliver events and initiatives which provide our students with food security in tough times.

Together with the Monash Student Association (MSA) and MONSU Caulfield, we kicked off the semester by hosting two separate MSO (Monash student organisation) community markets at the Clayton and Caulfield campuses in mid-March. On offer was a range of everyday necessities like fresh produce, pantry items and toiletries for students to stock up on. In that week alone, we were able to help out almost 1,000 students overall!

Those in attendance were blown away by the offerings, with many students saying they wish they had this access to free food and essentials every week.

The good news is that the community markets were just the first instalment of a number of food relief initiatives we have in store for you with our state government funding.

Our next MSO-led free food event will take place on Thursday, 2 April at the Caulfield campus. This Dinner Drop will provide free meals to students on a first come, first served basis.

Other upcoming food relief events include:

MSO Community Market @ Caulfield

WHEN: Thursday, 23 April

MSO Community Market @ Clayton

WHEN: Tuesday, 5 May

MGA x MONSU Dinner Drops @ Caulfield

WHEN: Thursay, 7 May

We will be hosting more of these alongside our regular MGA free food events throught the semester, so keep an eye on our what's on page and social media accounts for the next event!
