Advocacy: Wrapping up for 2024

As the year comes to a close, we thought we'd take a walk down memory lane and revisit some of the MGA's biggest triumphs of 2024

Published Date 18/12/2024

Over the course of the year, the MGA advocacy service has taken on over 1000 cases! The students we’ve seen have come to us with a diverse range of challenges. From issues with supervision or course quality to disciplinary matters and financial troubles, we’ve seen it all.

We know that university life can be stressful or confusing for many reasons, and our advocates act as a guide to navigate you through sticky situations. The positive feedback we’ve received from students who’ve benefited from this service just makes it all the more rewarding.

We were also very proud to reinstate our full welfare assistance program in semester 2 of this year. This program as well as our general welfare grants scheme has enabled us to help out over 130 graduate students doing it tough in 2024.

Here’s what students had to say about our advocacy service:

"I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for all the guidance and support you provided. Your insights and advice were incredibly helpful and brought me great comfort during such a challenging period."

"Everything went well. I got all the extensions I needed. I appreciate you and MGA a lot. Thank you again! I’m beyond grateful."

"I truly appreciate your advice and support ... I have to say, I’ve been deeply inspired by people like you."

"I [want] to sincerely thank you for your guidance and support ... Your advice was invaluable in helping me navigate this challenging situation and in preparing my response."

It’s been an honour for us to serve the graduate student community, and we will continue to support you in the new year. Whether your problems are big or small, we want to hear them and we’re here to help.

The MGA office and advocacy service as a whole will be taking a break for the holiday period from 21 December 2024 to 8 January 2025. We look forward to seeing you in the new year!
