Surviving and thriving at Monash: Resources for academic success

At times, we know that undertaking a graduate degree may feel challenging. Remember that you're not alone! Below, we've outlined some valuable resources for studying and navigating your graduate student journey.

#1: Student Academic Success (SAS)

Monash University's Student Academic Success hub is your one-stop-shop for support, workshops and resources. You can explore everything SAS has to offer at Learn HQ. Notably, you can book a 1:1 consultation with a SAS adviser who can provide sage guidance on study-related issues and strategies for academic writing or refer you to certain resources or workshops that may be of use. This free service can be booked online.

#2: Monash Library

It should come as no surprise that the library is an invaluable asset for graduate students! Here, you can browse the various resources and services they provide. You can even book in to meet with a librarian for tailored advice.

#3: English Connect

If you're looking to build on your English language proficiency or gain a better understanding of Australian culture, slang and customs, this is a great place to start! English Connect provides a range of free peer-to-peer programs, customised to fit your needs, whether they be academic or social.

#4: Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS)

Peer Assisted Study Sessions are available for certain units that students might find particularly challenging. These are run weekly on-campus or online and are led by a student who has recently completed the unit with excellend results. PASS is a great way to tackle a subject you might be struggling with via group work and it's a fantastic opportunity to meet new people in your course! You will need to check if PASS is available for a certain unit through Moodle.

#5: Reach out to your faculty

If you're looking for support that is specific to your area of study, your faculty may provide services or resources to help you. Below, we've listed some faculty-run support services or resources. If you can't find what you're looking for in your faculty, reach out to them to find out more.

Work for the MGA

The MGA employs Monash graduate students to fill the receptionist roles at the Clayton and Caulfield offices. When a vacancy arises we advertise the position through our email newsletter and on our website.

The Monash Graduate Association (MGA) is the representative body for all graduate research and coursework students enrolled at Monash University. So, what sets us apart from the University services? The MGA is an independent, not-for-profit association governed by graduate students, for graduate students. Our primary aim is to be there for you! If you can’t find what you are looking for, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
