MGA Annual Ball 2023 Highlights

MGA Annual Ball 2023 | A Page in Time: A recap of the night

In case you missed the most exciting event of the year, or if you were too busy dancing to notice the details – here’s a recap of all that happened at the MGA Ball 2023: A Page in Time

On a cold evening in August, the stunning doors of the State Library Victoria were opened to Monash graduate students and their guests. All of them dressed for a grand occasion, some in modern attire, others in traditional garb, and even a few who wore clothes of their own making!

They couldn’t help but look up as they entered the majestic La Trobe reading room. They were enchanted by the Dome Room’s architecture and rows of countless books – which they used well to click pictures during the cocktail hour. Then the curtain was pulled back and doors to the spectacular Ian Potter Queen’s hall were opened, and all thoughts of the city outside were forgotten for a time under the beautiful arched roof held up by magnificent white pillars.

All the guests were seated for the welcome address by the MGA Student Engagement Officer, Leilani and the MGAEC President, Saham. The food and drinks were wonderful as well, but we’ll save you the hunger pangs!

“The highlight of my night was watching the Gatsby dancers doing their performance during dinner. They were so emotive and energetic that they literally brought us to our feet to dance the night away. Not to mention, the quandong pudding, which was a perfect not too sweet dessert to finish the night off.

[It was] A sophisticated night filled with historical beauty, good food, bad dancing, and new friends.”

– Spencer Ray, Graduate Student (Environment and Sustainability)
