In-person Shut Up and Write | Clayton

Monthly in-person Shut Up and Write sessions where you prioritise your writing over everything else!

What is Shut Up and Write?

'Shut up and Write' (SUAW) as a concept was developed by a writing community in San Fransisco in the mid-2000s with the idea of using a support group to help with accountability and motivation. Today, SUAW sessions are held all over the world, with a great adoption in the academic writing community.

Hosted by Jenn Wilson (an HDR student from the School of Media, Film and Journalism), there will now be monthly in-person SUAW sessions for HDR students at the Clayton campus.

Come and join your peers in these intense writing sessions. Light snacks will be provided. You can come and go within the session time.

How can I prepare in advance to get more done:

  • Have a writing plan and materials prepared (articles, notes, chart) so you are able to concentrate on your writing without any interruptions.
  • Set your own target of how much writing you want to achieve during the shut up and write session.
  • Focus on drafting new material for the thesis as opposed to editing, revising, or re-hashing existing content.

Work for the MGA

The MGA employs Monash graduate students to fill the receptionist roles at the Clayton and Caulfield offices. When a vacancy arises we advertise the position through our email newsletter and on our website.

The Monash Graduate Association (MGA) is the representative body for all graduate research and coursework students enrolled at Monash University. So, what sets us apart from the University services? The MGA is an independent, not-for-profit association governed by graduate students, for graduate students. Our primary aim is to be there for you! If you can’t find what you are looking for, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
