When your research progress is impacted, you may be able to apply for a milestone extension.
You are obliged to reach certain milestones in your candidature within certain time frames. Be mindful of these milestones as failure to meet a milestone requirement can lead to termination from your program.
The University recognises that sometimes students are affected by issues outside of their control. This can include:
- Failure of the supervisor to provide feedback in a timely manner
- Chronic medical condition/s
- Loss of data or equipment
- Delays in ethics or visa approvals
- Unexpected changes to supervisory arrangements or research direction
In these situations, the University can provide students with extensions to their milestone or research submission dates. MGA Advocates can help you with applying for an extension and navigating these processes.
How can the MGA Help?
If you are concerned that you will not be able to meet your milestone requirements by the deadline, you should contact an MGA Advocate. An Advocate can help you identify the best way to apply for an extension, and guide you through the process. An Advocate can give you feedback and suggestions for your application to help you best present your situation to the University.
If you are a higher degree by research candidate (HDR), the MGA recommends that you become familiar with the Masters or Doctoral Handbooks. This includes students pursuing a research masters degree or the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. These handbooks provide an essential guide to all aspects of your candidature at Monash University.
Monash Graduate Research Office (MGRO) is the administrative branch of Monash University responsible for higher research degree students.
