Winners of the MGA’s Annual Battle of the Brains 2022

Find out more about who won and lost at this evening of fun and quizzing for HDR students at Monash.

Team members of It’s Morpho Time in no particular order: Alyssa Fjeldd, Hazel Richards, Jack O’Connor, Jake Kotevski, James Rule, Ruairidh Duncan, Tahlia and Willian Parker.

On Wednesday, 31 August, 141 HDR students from a range of faculties gathered at Clayton Campus in twenty-four teams to compete for the title of biggest general knowledge smarty-pants at Monash University.

The delightful Quiz Meister Dave led the teams into a wholesome night of trivia with video and music-based pop culture questions. LOLs were had and friends were made, pizza was eaten and drinks were drunk.

But if you take your quiz nights seriously, only one thing matters: winning!

It’s Morpho Time from the Faculty of Science emerged from their cocoons and fluttered to the lead with 64 points. Along with the honour of their team name inscribed on the MGA Trivia Plaque and first place medals, they also won delicious drinking chocolate and choccies, sparkling alcohol-free cabernet and various MGA goodies.

Despite being the fastest land animal, Team CHEetahs were not so far behind in second place on 61 points. Team All came in third on 59 points.

The best team name was awarded to TeamName_Final_FinalVersion_Ver3.docx who won an MGA merch pack for encapsulating the essence of a frazzled PhD student. Finally, a big shout-out to that one guy from the IT Crowd who stayed until the end to accept his team’s wooden spoon for losing the quiz… very dignified!
